Fun at the Fair

Today we made our annual trip to the Utah State Fair.
It was tons of fun.
Maybe the best year ever.
We started by taking Leo through this little demonstration they had set up to show little kids what it would be like to be a farmer. He got to go from building to building doing things like milking a cow, harvesting apples, driving a tractor, gardening etc. Each place had an item that he got to put in his basket. At the end he went to the "farmer's market" and turned it all in. Then he used his money from that to go to the market and get a treat. (He picked strawberry milk.) At first he was a little hesitant, but by the end he was all for it. Here he is sorting through his items at the farmer's market:

After that we went to the big, yellow slide. I was so excited for Leo to love this. He didn't. In fact, he hated it. When we got to the top I set him down and he wouldn't even stand up until I held his hand. Then when we sat down he kept saying, "No, no, please, no." We made him go down it twice. (Because we bought 6 tickets in advance.) This is his second time down. You can't tell, but he's screaming the whole way.
I know, we're mean. We like it.

Next we introduced Leo to the joys of the Beef Feast. (Thank you Cattlemen's Association of Utah.) This is the real reason we go to the State Fair.

After that we went to the sea lion show and then to the animals.
I'm pretty sure this chicken was bigger than Jay Alvin:

And this turkey for sure weighed more than Leo:

Here's the yearly goat picture:

Around this time Jay Alvin pooped out.

So we let Leo spend some more time at his favorite part of the fair.

And then we left. Leo, of course, fell asleep as soon as he got buckled in.

Your kids are adorable! That is the most ginormous chicken I have ever seen!
