Musings of a Fat Girl

I've been thinking about food a lot lately. Mostly about how I shouldn't be eating it. (Can I just insert this random thought here? I love nursing my babies, I really do. I love the bond that it gives you with your baby. I love knowing that I am still able to provide everything for them that they need, even though they aren't living inside of me any more. I love the health benefits for both the baby and myself. But I hate how hungry it makes me! I feel like I'm dying all the time.) So I started a diet yesterday (Sorry, a lifestyle change.) and I felt famished all day long. I could not get full, but I really didn't want to mess everything up on the first day so I was trying to eat mostly raw vegetables. Have you ever noticed that the more vegetables you eat the hungrier you get? How is that possible? Any how, I literally ate a salad out of a mixing bowl. It was huge. And when I was done I considered gnawing off my left arm. (I figured that the extra calories would be negated by the loss of flesh and I should still be able to lose weight.) I hate this.

Kristen, is the weather nice there? I hate it when I have to limit my foods- i'm sure you are craving carbs and that is what you are trying to cut! ( i say this as I eat a bowl of pasta- sorry). Can you eat something like whole grain toast or bread and then go for a walk with the kids? Or are you doing something really regimented? I recall not remembering how hungry I was nursing- until we got like 4 miles into a 8 mile run and I was STARVING. i bought some powdered doughnuts at a gas station- thinking it was a good choice because the kids would help me eat them- the kids were not interested, so I think I ate them all! totally negating my really long run. I wish i could think of a really filling food.

Hey Kristen,
let me just say, I hear ya on the nursing (and being hungry, and needing to eat--even not while nursing:)
To make you feel fuller longer, pair a protein with your carbohydrate and it will totally help.
Ex. Apple (carb) with some PB or a string cheese (protein). Veggies (carb) and hummus (protein) Cottage cheese (protein) and fruit (carb)
Yes, the protein has more calories or points or whatever you're watching, but it's worth it to not be starving.

Oh my heavens! I totally agree. We have had salad for the last 3 nights for dinner. I envy my kids cuz they go to bed shortly after dinner, and dont think about food again til breakfast. Meanwhile, I am up late folding clothes and doing dishes and STARVING!
